M-ettes earn Top Spot at 2B Tournament

The Malta M-ettes basketball team enters this weekend's 2B District Tournament with a 16-2 record, and are undefeated against Class B opponents.

As the tournament's top seed, the M-ettes have earned a first-round bye and will take on the winner of Glasgow and Harlem's tournament-opening game. The tournament opener will take place in the Malta High School gymnasium on Thursday, February 16, at 4:30 p.m.

**Tournament tickets for the 2023 District 2B Basketball Tournament will be sold at Malta High School on the night of each event.

Thursday - February 16. $7.00 for an adult and $5.00 for a student. Friday - February 17. $10.00 for an adult and $7.00 for a student. Saturday - February 18. $10.00 for an adult and $7.00 for a student. Ticket prices are set by the District 2B Administrators.

Malta High School Activity Passes as well as Golden Age Passes are not valid at post-season events.

The M-ettes' first game will be at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 17. If Malta can win their first game in the semifinals, they will face the winner of Wolf Point and Poplar in game 2.

The M-ettes defeated the Shelby Lady Coyotes in their last game of the regular season on Saturday, February 11, in Malta. The score was 57-30.

The M-ettes were led by senior Allison Kunze who had a double-double consisting of 17 points and 12 rebounds. She also had four assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Freshman Neva Jacobson had 11 points, six rebounds, four steals, and two assists. Senior Addy Anderson had 10 points, six rebounds, and three steals. Senior Madison Williamson had 10 points, five steals, four rebounds, and four assists.

The M-ettes had 39 rebounds, while Shelby only had 16. Malta also had 18 steals and forced 25 turnovers. The M-ettes scored 12 points off of turnovers and 22 second-chance points.

Malta outscored the Lady Coyotes 25-15 in the first half and 32- 15 in the second half.

Malta defeated the Poplar Lady Indians on Friday, February 10, in Poplar. The score was 63-50.

The M-ettes were led by Williamson, who had a double-double consisting of 20 points and 12 steals. Kunze had a double-double consisting of 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jacobson had seven points, five steals, and five rebounds.

Malta outrebounded Poplar 55 to 28. The M-ettes also forced 33 turnovers, but had 29 turnovers of their own. Malta scored 31 points off of turnovers, while Poplar scored 17 points.

Malta outscored Poplar 28-14 in the first quarter, 21-11 in the second quarter, and 11-10 in the third quarter. Poplar made a run in the fourth quarter holding Malta's reserves to three points while scoring 15 points.
