HS Track: Phillips County Athletes Attend Top Ten Meet in Glasgow

All four Phillips County Track teams were represented at the Annual Norm Girard North-East Top 10 meet in Glasgow last Tuesday, May 2.

No team scores were kept at the meet, and only the top four in each event were placers.

Dodson Freshman Kylee Ball was Dodson's lone athlete and placed ninth in the women's discus with a throw of 86-05.

Whitewater's Lady Penguins had two individual champions in the meet. Shelbi LaBrie set personal bests in the 1600 and 3200 respectively. She had a time of 5:15.71 in the 1600 and a time of 11:37.81 in the 3200. She improved upon both school records that she had set in the process.

Fellow Lady Penguin Paige Wasson won javelin with a throw of 124-00. Wasson was also sixth in the 400 with a personal best of 1:03.59.

The Lady Penguins long relay team took sixth with a time of 4:22.09. The team consisted of Kora LaBrie, Kendall Scheffelmear, S. LaBrie, and Wasson.

K. LaBrie was tenth in the 800 with a personal best of 2:45.08, and Penguin Austin Hanley was tenth in the boys 110 meter hurdles with a personal best of 20.72.

Saco's Blaine Downing was first in the pole vault event after clearing 14-00, tying the school record in the event. He competed and won in high jump in the Sidney Invitational on Saturday, May 6, and broke the school record by clearing 14-1, a new personal best. He was tenth in the 200 in Sidney with a personal best of 24.88. No other Saco athlete attended the Sidney meet.

Josie Brown was third in the 100 with a time of 13.31 seconds, and fourth in the 200 with a time of 27.11 seconds.

Mustang Gavin Slade was third in javelin with a throw of 148-7, a new personal best. Tia Siewing was third in the girls shot put with a throw of 36-3, a new personal best.
