One Nation, Under God

Veterans Honored at MHS

Bright and early on Monday morning, veterans made their way to the Malta High School cafeteria, where they were greeted by young ladies as school representatives and Principal Shawn Bleth. At short notice, due various scheduling conflicts and other interruptions, the veterans were invited to come, visit, share and enjoy time with the youth.

About 15-20 were able to make the trek and each enjoyed the decorated venue as well as the delightful youth.

Malta High School has hosted breakfast the last couple years for veterans as their way of expressing thanks for their service.

Veterans who had served in Vietnam, Guam, Iraq and other foreign wars were joined by local members (retired) of the Montana Army National Guard.

In the afternoon, the veterans attended an assembly at the Elementary School and enjoyed the musical program by Mrs. Janell McKenney. American Legion Commander Vince Schmoeckel posted the US flag at the start of the program, assisted by Kevin Stevens. Following the music presentation, Ret. Lt. Donald Klinko and NG Henry Oyler did the presentation of folding the flag.

As the youth exited the assembly they gave the veterans a high-five or handshake to the men who have served the country for their right to attend school, be educated and live in America.

Other military attending included David Wilkes, Ken Ruzicka, Jay Southwick, Bob Kapp, Rich Schumacher, Larry Garfield, Jim Garfield, Felix SaintLouis, Jim Layton, Arron Riggs, Samantha Starkey, and Kori Kindle. If anyone was missed, please accept our apology, it merely an oversight.

Thank you, veterans across the state and America for your service!
