  • Minugh recalls tower building years

    Sarah Osmundson, Reporter|Jul 27, 2016

This day and age photographs are taken every second by cell phones, but that wasn't the case in the 1960's. A camera's film still needed to be developed in a dark room or taken to the local drug store or mailed away and in a week or two the photos were mailed back. Also, not very often does a happen-stance photo end up in a museum only to be discovered by a friend years later. Al Minugh of Dodson, Mont., brought in a copy of one such photo, but before we get to that story, Al revealed a little...

  • Feels like hunting season

    Parker Heinlein, Outdoor Columnist|Jul 27, 2016

Although it was the middle of July, the breeze carried with it the promise of fall and all that entails. And like a warm zephyr on a cool night, it made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I was filled with a feeling of dread that hunting season was starting without me. I’ve had that dream before, but this time I was awake, fully aware of what time it was and it wasn’t time to go hunting. “Feels like hunting season,” I said to my wife. “Kinda does, doesn’t it?” she replied, not looking u...

  • 'It's a long way down the holiday road'

    Mark Hebert, Editor|Jul 27, 2016

As you read this column, the Hebert clan is most likely somewhere between Wolf Point and Glasgow, making our way home to Phillips County after stays in Minot, N.D., and Deadwood, S.D., as your neighborhood reporter’s 2016 vacation comes to a close. This year we decided to take to the highways and byways of this great country instead of our usual airplane trip to Southern California to visit the Mouse and his friends. We weren’t sure where or what we would do, but the wife, child and I knew that we wanted a road trip. Shortly after, the dau...

    Lori Taylor, PC Museum Curator|Jul 27, 2016

Genealogy research has been keeping the staff busy at the PC Museum this week. A family from Maine came researching a bachelor that lived in the Content area for many years. The only information the family had found was a date of death and the name. Our research library was a fountain of information giving up not only an obituary but also a name of an unknown cousin. The obituary also named the pall bearers and we were able to unite the family and pall bearer for a visit! Thank-goodness for the information that has been donated to the museum...

SAVING THE MONARCH BUTTERFLY What is all the hullaballoo about Monarch butterflies? Why should we care if their numbers are declining? To put it bluntly, if the small creatures of the world are in trouble, humankind can't be far behind. After decades of dousing everything (soil, plants, insect, small and large animals) with poison, the effects are becoming more evident. On top of spraying everything, we are tearing down trees and covering arable farmland with pavement, houses and nonproductive...

We all feel anxiety at times. We may be anxious about a new job, moving to a new city, entering into a romantic relationship.
