Roots & Boots

Kershaw, Tippin, and Raye promise show to remember at P.C. Fair

Three artists who defined Country Music in the 1990s will take the stage on Friday, August 3, at the Phillips County Fair as the trio of Sammy Kershaw, Collin Raye, and Aaron Tippin, collectively known as Roots & Boots, bring a combined 40 Top 10 radio hits and 25 million albums sold to Dodson.

“We are thrilled to have Roots and Boots for this year’s fair,” Phillips County Fair Board’s Shane Anderson said. “Sammy Kershaw, Aaron Tippin, or Collin Raye alone would be an awesome headliner, so to have all three of them here together at the Phillips County Fair is pretty incredible.”

Tippin, who the wife of 25 years, Thea, is a Great Falls High School grad of the Class of 1982, said he loves performing in Montana, added this version of Roots & Boots has been playing together for the past couple of years, and the three enjoy their time together on stage.

“We have a full band. All three of us perform. We have fun and the crowds love it,” Tippin told the PCN.

Some of the members of Roots & Boots chart-topping songs include Tippin’s Kiss This, Kershaw's She Don't Know She's Beautiful, Raye's Little Red Rodeo. Tippin said that he has his favorite songs the group plays in concert but didn’t want to give away too much.

“I’m going to let you be the judge of that,” he said of the group’s individual hits. “See you at the show!”

Last year’s Phillips County Fair concert featured LoCash and the total head-count at the concert was 1,029 while the 2016 concert, featuring Sawyer Brown, had an attendance of 1,677. This year marks the 103rd consecutive year of the Phillips County Fair in Dodson, and three years ago, when Clay Walker played the 100th Annual event, concert attendance shot to 1,872.

“The turnout for our concert the past few years has been amazing, we are seeing people from all over the state coming on a regular basis,” Anderson said. “The great support we get from Phillips County and across the Hi-Line allows us to keep attracting these types of artists. Roots & Boots should be another memorable Friday night at the Phillips County Fair."

Following the dance, local legends Justin Lamb, Vince Mace, O.K. Olsen and Chase Gebhardt, known as Rock Solid Country, will play the street dance following the Roots & Boots concert.

Grandstand Pass and concert tickets are available for purchase at First State Bank of Malta, First Security Bank and Independence Bank or online at phillipscountyfair.com. The Roots & Boots concert starts at 6 p.m. and there will also be a street dance on Saturday night following the demolition derby (which follow the AMX Races that start at 1 p.m.) Sunday’s grandstand events will be Indian Relay Races which start at 11 a.m. and conclude following the Ranch Rodeo which kicks off at 1 p.m. (which follows the Parade of Champions.)
