One Nation, Under God

2021 Summer Festival and Crazy Days Weekend

A fun time was had by all who attended the Summer Festival and Crazy Days this past weekend in Malta.

Starting Friday, July 9, at 5 p.m., Veteran's Park was ready to go with craft vendors, inflatable bouncy houses, water slides, and food vendors.

Travis Rhodes was set up in the gazebo with his DJ equipment, playing some fun, summer vibe music.

And if you were down there, you may have seen two or three grown-ups rolling around on adult-sized tricycles on First Street. Not naming any names, but one of them was complaining about not being able to reach the pedals!

Saturday was kicked off by the Kiwanis breakfast at Blue Ridge Brewery from 7-9 a.m.

At 9 a.m., the craft vendors, water slides, inflatables, and food vendors were back in the park.

Many of the businesses, bars, and restaurants in town held their Crazy Days sales both out on the sidewalks and in stores.

At 11 a.m., the Trafton Park Rodeo Committee held a parade, followed by a watermelon eating contest at noon, sponsored by Albertsons.

Malta Chamber Committee member, Julie Snellman said, "I think the weekend went really well. Saturday was well-attended downtown. The inflatables and water slides were consistently full all day with the heat. The craft and food vendors were busy all throughout the day and the watermelon eating contest was a big hit! The parade was a nice addition to the downtown events, bringing quite a few blocks of parade entries."

She went on to say, "From the businesses I've heard from, they had steady business days as well. I know we were busy and had a good sidewalk and in-store sales at Art's Furniture, and Radio Shack, Family Matters, and Patty's Floral were all steady during their open hours as well."

The fun was capped Saturday night in the Trafton Park Arena with the Malta NRA Rodeo starting at 6 p.m.
