One Nation, Under God

Fairgrounds rocked last Friday

"How we doing Dodson, Montana?" Asked Reckless Kelly frontman, Willy Braun, as they took the stage Friday night. Getting answers of yells, whistles, and hollers, the Austin, Texas band began their set.

With the crowd already getting into the set, Braun said, "This one goes out to all the real American Girls out there." Leading to one of the band's newest songs called American Girls off of the album of the same name. Just saying that brought the already full dance floor in front of the stage up to maximum capacity.

"The concert was great!" Said Malta local Jacy Stolem. "It was great family entertainment, and it was awesome to have a local guy as an opening act."

The first act of the night was the local guy Stolem was talking about, Chisholm Christensen. In his first-ever concert, he took the stage admittedly nervous, but ready to go. Playing songs off of his album 'The Prisoner', he did not disappoint the crowd. It was just him on the stage, backed up by a track of the band music from the album. He controlled the stage like he belonged there. Christensen also got his sister up on stage to sing one duet with him that he had written for her weddings father-daughter dance.

Christensen gave way to the Butte native Levi Blom and his band who played a mix of their own music and cover songs that even the non-country fans would know.

"I've been fighting with my vocal cords for a few days now," Blom would say after the show. "The smoke down in Butte has been horrible and it has affected my singing a little, but you just have to battle through."

Blom also said, "We love playing in Malta, and Dodson. The small town atmosphere reminds us of home. This area has got a lot of really good, down to earth people."

Another Malta local, Justin Paul said, "Blom played a lot of great covers that the crowd all knew. He also did a great job warming the crowd up and getting everyone ready for the main act."

Paul went on to say, "Reckless Kelly was awesome! I only knew a few of their songs, but they sounded just as good in concert as they do on the album. Their stage presence was great too. You can tell by the way they interact with each other, and the crowd, that they've been doing this for a while."

Phillips County Fair Board member Shane Anderson said, "I think the whole night went really well. We've had a lot of positive feedback from just about everyone."
