City Council meeting update

The Malta City Council met on Tuesday, August 10, for their regular bi-weekly meeting.

The council passed resolution 1302 to authorize the submission of the MCEP Infrastructure Planning Grant application and resolution 1303, calling for a general election. They also passed the ok for out-of-city garbage pick-ups for two places that are already on a route and would not be out of the way.

Public Works Director Jim Truelove reported to the council that the city crew had done two digs since the last meeting.

The crew had also done two meter-pit installs on the west end of town.

Truelove then reported that the City Pool was back to running well. He had to replace a circulation pump as well as a shaft seal. He told the council that he would continue to circulate the pool after it closed for a week or two in case the school wants to use it.

City Clerk/Treasurer Lorie Bond gave the council the current shut-off list, current check register, and the July payroll/vacation/sick leave reports.

Bond then informed the council that the new budget would be ready to be looked at on Monday, August 16 and that it would be adopted by the council on Tuesday, August 31, at a public hearing at the City Hall at noon.

Parks and Rec. Director Sally Wright informed the council that the summer HIITs classes and yoga classes had ended on July 28. They had 12 and six clients respectively.

Gymnastics ended on July 30, with 43 kids participating.

The end of the year softball tournament will be on August 10 and 11.

For upcoming events, Wright said that Youth Soccer will be starting on August 16, and Co-Ed Volleyball starts on September 20.

The next City Council meeting will be on August 24, at the Malta City Hall, at 5 p.m.
