New and Familiar Faces at MPS

Educators Answer Questions Prior to Start of Year

Malta schools start back up on Wednesday, August 25, with two new principals and five new teachers.

Kelly Cederberg has taught in Malta since the 2019-20 school year. This year, she will be taking on the role of Middle School Principal, as well as teaching. She will teach 7th and 8th-grade health and 6th grade PE, then the rest of her day will be in the administration role.

She is originally from Ronan, MT, where she went to high school. She attended college at MSU-Billings.

Before coming to Malta, she taught in Turner and Shepherd.

Her hobbies include spending time with her kids and doing anything outdoors.

Her favorite food is steak with mashed potatoes, and Double Stuffed Oreos.

For music, she likes anything upbeat.

She spent her summer vacation taking some graduate classes, managing the Malta City Pool, and teaching swimming lessons. She also found some time to go camping and do a little traveling.

Shiloh Seymour is the new Malta Elementary Principal.

Shiloh spent her early years of school, up to 8th grade, at Fairfield. She then moved to Billings where she graduated from Skyview High School. She then went on to college at MSU-Billings.

Seymour has spent the past 23 years in education. Four years of first grade, seven years of 7-12 Special Ed., and 11 years of being an elementary principal. She has been a Special Ed. Director, Title IX Coordinator, Athletic Director, and other numerous training in other areas.

Her favorite food is chicken, and her go-to snack is Mt. Dew and chips.

She enjoys Classic Rock, R&B, Hip Hop, and "any modern music my daughter introduces me to on a car ride somewhere."

She spent her summer vacation taking her daughter to AAU basketball tournaments, rode horses around, and played a little golf. Other than that, she says she, "Just chilled at home."

Ryan Wilson is the new Malta High School Social Studies teacher as well as a coach in several sports.

Wilson grew up and graduated high school in Lewistown. He did his history and political science studies at Arizona St. and his teaching studies at MSU-B.

His last teaching job was in Wolf Point where he taught the same subjects. Before that, he was a firefighter/paramedic in Arizona. He says, "I'm on my second career now."

Wilson lists his hobby as coaching. He is coaching HS football this year and hopefully track as well.

His favorite food is a bacon cheeseburger and his go-to music is rap.

When asked how he spent his summer vacation, he said, "I moved! And did some football camps. I had a very busy summer and I feel like I didn't get anything accomplished. I think I'm down to six boxes left to unpack."

Shayley Simanton is the new English teacher in the Malta High School.

Simanton grew up and graduated high school in Malta. She went to college at the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND.

For hobbies, she lists sports and chasing her kids.

When asked about her favorite food and music, Simanton said, "I'm kinda getting into sushi right now. As for music, I'll listen to anything, but I love the singer/songwriter stuff."

When asked how she spent her summer vacation, she said they just did a little traveling to visit family.

Raymond Hough will be teaching Malta Middle School Earth, Life, and Physical Sciences.

Hough grew up in Arlington, WA, and then Conrad, MT, where he graduated high school. He went on to the University of Montana Western in Dillon, MT.

Hough is in his third year of teaching. He spent the first two years teaching in a two-room schoolhouse in Wisdom, MT.

His hobbies include baking, sewing, riding and fixing his bike, and working on computers. Hough says, "I'm a jack of all trades, master of none."

Hough's favorite food is lasagna and cinnamon rolls. For his favorite music, he said he will listen to just about anything.

He spent his summer vacation moving from Wisdom and helped his parents renovate their bathroom.

Andrea Lien is a new Malta Middle School teacher. She will be teaching Geography, Current Events, Life Skills, and PE.

Lien grew up and graduated from Whitewater High School, and went to college at Rocky Mountain College in Billings.

Before recently getting her teaching license, Lien spent eight years in banking and then was a stay-at-home mom for her kids for a while. She was also a bus driver and a substitute teacher.

For hobbies, she lists helping out on the ranch and all of her kids' sports and horse activities.

When asked what her favorite food is, Lien said, "I'd say sushi, but someone already stole that one. So I'll say steak and watermelon. That's what I craved when I was pregnant. For music, she listens to a little bit of everything but mostly country.

Lien said she spent her summer vacation taking her kids to basketball camps and trick riding on horseback camps, as well as a little time at the lake and camping.

Shanae Plocher is a new Kindergarten teacher at Malta Elementary School.

She was home schooled all the way through her elementary and high school years. For college, she says, "I kind of played the home school card there as well. I did distance learning through the University of Montana Western in Dillon.

Shanae previously worked at a preschool for six years. Five as a teacher and one in an administrative role.

For hobbies, she likes being around the farm animals and riding horses. Shanae also likes to do anything musically. "I can't 'play' any instrument, but I like to try."

Her favorite food is anything with chicken and her favorite music is gospel/bluegrass.

Shanae spent her summer vacation moving from the Bitterroot Valley, south of Missoula, to the Zortman area where her family is building a house, and took some summer classes.
