2nd Annual Andrew Flansaas Memorial Run Held in Loring

The 2nd annual Andrew Flansaas Memorial Run for Suicide Awareness and Prevention was held in Loring on Saturday, October 2, at 10:00 a.m.

This year's event had 22 runners, almost doubling last year's total, had a 10k run and a 5k run/walk.

Event organizer, Carmen Norville, said, "We had a really nice day for the run. It wasn't too windy."

The event had prizes given out for 1st and 2nd place in each of the runs, as well as a prize for the 1st place kid in the 5k.

Ava Handley took first place in the 5k with Matt Norville getting second place and Amos Blunt getting first place for the kids. Carmen Norville took first place in the 10k, with her sister, Jonnae Slade, getting second.

"We had some great volunteers helping us this year," Norville said. "Chad Wisher brought his bus over and shuttled everyone to the starting line. Janice and Curt Reichelt, Sally Wright from the Malta Parks and Rec and some of her friends and kids helped, Paula Morrison and Carol Lumsden from the Loring Women's Club, and Jay Blunt, helped keep everyone safe and hydrated as flaggers. My dad had a horse team and hay wagon out for anyone that got tired could ride for a bit."

At the end of the run, Norville had some general information on suicide awareness and prevention for people to look at and a lunch was served.

"My hope is to get the event to grow every year," said Norville. "With the great volunteers we have, I'm sure we can."
