One Nation, Under God

POW/MIA Day Quietly Observed

The granddaugher of a Vietnam veteran, and great granddaughter of a Korean War veteran, Lauren Tuss, took pride and honor in the POW/MIA day of remembrance and honor. On Friday, September 17, she created and erected a quiet display in honor of our military that still are unaccounted for; some are MIA from combat conflicts. Some are still missing as a result of being held in prisoners as POW (Prisoner of War) from conflicts on enemy soil. Regardless of why these men and women have never come home, it is a heart wrenching and somber observance.... one that few remember, one mothers will never forget.

The display sat quietly on the corner of 3rd Street W and Central, compliments of "Active Solutions" owner, Carmen Norville.

World War II missing and unaccounted for is 72,395, the Korean War missing is 7554, Vietnam missing is 1,584 and other conflicts total 131. Of the total 81,600 lives listed 41,000 are presumed lost at sea.

Lauren's grandfather is Walter Tuss, III (Vietnam veteran) and her great grandfather is Dale Green (Korean War veteran), both are deceased. She is a member of the Juniors of the American Legion Auxiliary and supportive of the VFW Auxiliary.

It was a quiet display honoring 81,600 lives that probably was noticed by few. Regardless, as the motto says, "we will never forget".
