Sen. Mike Lang Presented 2021 Montana Distinguished Service Award

Sen. Mike Lang of Malta has been awarded the 2021 Upper Missouri Water Association Distinguished Service Award for the state of Montana. The award is presented annually to a person or group from each of the four states within the association: North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Wyoming. Award winners are recognized for their distinguished service in the field of water resource development and a quality environment.

Lang has been involved in production agriculture all his life, from managing family farm operations to developing Northern Ag Services, an agricultural consulting services business.

He was elected to the Montana House of Representatives in 2012 and then to the Montana Senate in 2016 where has been a strong advocate for agriculture. During the recent 2021 legislative session, Lang chaired the Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Committee and introduced and successfully carried numerous bills on behalf of agriculture and specifically irrigated agriculture. Representing the High Line of Montana, Lang has consistently been a strong voice and a champion in support of efforts to fund rehabilitation of the aging St. Mary/Milk River Water Delivery Project. He has at times been the lone voice for agriculture on several committees like the Sage Grouse Committee.

Lang's commitment to agriculture and concern for the impact to producers and the people and businesses in the local communities of Montana is apparent in his approach in dealing with many tough issues. The Upper Missouri Water Association is proud to recognize him for his long service to the state of Montana.
