One Nation, Under God

Donald Joseph (DJ) Has Eagle, Sr. (August 19, 1988 - April 15, 2023)

Donald Joseph Has Eagle Sr. "DJ", 34, began his journey home on April 15, 2023. DJ was born on August 19, 1988, in Havre, MT to Jack and Tina Has The Eagle. Growing up, DJ started his hustling business early.

He started selling eggs, fireworks, and candy out of the trunk of his Dodge Intrepid. He was his grandma Helen's baby, where he got his caring nature from. DJ always saw the good in everyone. In 2007, DJ graduated from Hays Lodgepole High School with honors. From high school, DJ enlisted in the United States Army during a time of war. From there he went to basic combat training at Ft. Sill, OK, for 18 weeks. After DJ completed basic training he advanced to AIT, advanced individual training, located at Aberdeen Proven Ground, Maryland, for 22 weeks MOS school. It was there that he received his orders to deploy with a date set somewhere near Bagdad, Iraq. While home on leave he got to meet his born daughter Maeli Jean Helen. He then returned overseas. After a very hot 13 months of running convoys from the Jordanian border to Bagdad, Iraq, his deployment ended. He then returned home to start a life for himself. He married and soon after Donald Jr. was born in April 2012. He then later divorced. DJ graduated from Aaniih Nakoda College with two associate degrees and a certificate in highway construction from Salish Kootenai College. From there he went to the Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) and graduated with honors. After graduating from MLEA, he went to work for the Rocky Boy and Ft. Belknap police departments. DJ started working for Floyd Frey in late 2015 where he was a semi-truck driver, a cultivator, and a mechanic. He worked for them until around 2016. DJ then moved to Billings with his mother Tina and sister Jaeda. He worked as a framer for S Bars and also worked at Fly-in-Lube. In 2017 DJ met the love of his life, Kasey Hope. They were soon married at Lodgepole church. In 2018 DJ started his employment with Ft. Belknap road maintenance, which was seasonal. In 2019 DJ's youngest son Cinch was born. During DJ's off-season, he was employed by Ft. Belknap Forestry as a firefighter and camp crew boss. On December 19, 2022, his baby girl Waxja was born. He would call her "Winter Storm" because she was born during one of the worst winter storms we've had. DJ enjoyed being in the mountains, following our traditional ceremonies, dancing in the Big Lodge, getting coral poles, getting sweatwood, and timber so he could use his sawmill.

Words can't even describe the pain we feel at the loss of our husband, dad, brother, son, grandchild, uncle, and nephew.

There will never be another Donald "DJ" Has Eagle, he is truly one of a kind, and will forever be missed.

Donald is survived by his wife Kasey, his children Maeli, Donald Jr., Piercyn, Cinch, and Waxja, parents Jack and Tina Has The Eagle; brothers Roger (Kelli) Has The Eagle, Willie Joe Skidmore, Jay Has The Eagle, TR Yallop, and Jeff Stiffarm; sisters Jaeda (Raph) Goodson, adopted sisters Nicole (Wibin Jackson) Gone, Leanne (Beto) Facundo-First Smoke, Jaimie (Tom) McCabe- First Smoke; grandparents Carla and Ray King, Peter (Marlene) Big Stone; adopted parents Howard (Geraldine) Gone; uncle Tracy Doney, Ray King Jr., Bill King; and aunt Tonya.
