One Nation, Under God

The Wall Says It All

As the underpass is labeled to let people know what town they are in, now the wall says it, too. Kari Rae (Saint Louis), owner of the Villa Theatre, commissioned Cat (Catherine) McIntyre to paint the exterior east wall of the Villa.

Originally an artist was set to do the project and there were a couple snags and interruptions in the process and a new artist needed to be located. Cat answered the inquiry about services and abilities and in late April, the project got off the ground.

Cat just finished a similar painting in Wolf Point, it is done with a western/Native American theme. The one coming to life on the theatre is M-A-L-T-A and is done in a bright array of lively tones of reds, oranges, blues and grays.

A native of Glasgow, Cat spends a full day and overnight to get the most hours in per trip. Besides being a talented artist and creator in multiple mediums, she is also a busy young mother of two sons.

When you get a moment, drive by and check out the new mural. She also painted the underpass in Glasgow, a stunning sunset, befitting the northern part of the great state.

Cat said her plans for completing the mural include adding wild mustangs in the background, and incorporating a horseback rider in the "M". There will be flying geese leaving the mural and on the wall that is to the right.

An elk is the center of attention in the "L" and she recently added a red Angus cow to the foreground with a barbed wire fence blending the theme throughout. All the letters will be outlined in black and "Welcome to..." will be added to the top left as a final step.

That step includes a special matinee on Wednesday, June 28, where kids will be invited to assist with the painting by adding their own artistic touches. (* with a little guidance and direction from Cat.)

This mural sends a proud message about our town...and it does it with mastery, showcasing the abilities and aptness of this young impressive artist.

The mural is a reflection of the heritage of our corner of the world, from the rolling hills to the livelihood through the cattle, the wildlife, through the windmills waiting to catch a breath of wind, and to the serene sunset splendor.
