City to Begin Filling "Chuckholes", Lucky Bullet Under New Ownership

A full agenda greeted the City Mayor and Council members Hicks, Sintler and Rummel at the meeting on June 27th in the City Chambers. The pledge to the flag was recited and Mayor John Demarais introduced Jenna Ogletree and Oliver Roy, guests in attendance from the Montana Conservation Corps.

The crew doing the work on the highway construction on Hwy 191 S. had inquired about getting a 300-gallon garbage container; whereas the details weren't yet clear, no action was taken on the matter at this time.

The City crew is done with trimming and chopping trees in Trafton, for the time being.

PWD Truelove said there was a problem with the Legg-Robinson well, stating Jacobson Drilling thought the problem was in the well, so it was pulled. The problem was with the casing; which is only a couple of years old. A new motor and new pump were ordered for the Robinson pump. It was down half from 900 gallons per minute and was now running at two gallons a minute. The Legg unit needs a new soft start.

There is a dike inspection scheduled, mowing will begin on the west end soon.

PWD Truelove stated he had replaced the pump on the Legg well. He also approached the Council about purchasing a 22-foot tilt trailer with a toolbox. A motion was made by Councilman Sintler, seconded by Councilman Rummel to approve the purchase; the motion carried.

Councilman Bill Hicks inquired as to "how is the materials for filling chuckholes?" The City has two pallets of patching material and will begin repairs next week. Again, the alleys will be maintained as well.

City Clerk Lorie Bond had provided the council members with packets of info, including the current shut-off list, CD renewal information, and a copy of the checkbook. There was a letter regarding the transfer of the liquor license of the Lucky Bullet to CDHerman, LLC, which had purchased the Lucky Bullet. There was no opposition.

There was a situation involving a dog and a complaint; situation was taken care of by a law enforcement officer.

There was a discussion on why the City has wards. Mayor Demarais will check with the City Attorney for clarification.

Sheriff Lytle provided the Council with an update from his office, however, he was not present.

There was no one present to give reports from the Compliance Officer, Landfill, Safety, Fire Chief, Planning Board, and Parks and Recreation. PWD Truelove stated that a County Commissioner had told him that there is a new Disaster Coordinator and the office that was at the Event Center will now be located in the courthouse.

The Council approved Clerk Lorie Bond, Deputy Clerk Laurie Barrett, and PWD Truelove to attend the training in Helena for the Leagues of Cities and Towns in October.

Under new business the Council approved Resolution 1329, setting the number of days for camping in Trafton Park at 14 days.

The MCEP Infrastructure Planning Grant Application Form, providing a PER for water grants was put to a motion and seconded, with the motion being approved. The Council authorized to submit an MCEP Infrastructure grant application.

On the agenda was the consideration of Resolution 1331, authorizing the transfer of funds to the capital fire truck fund. The resolution was approved by the Council.

Mayor Demarais introduced Scott Meneely who inquired about variance on a City resolution; the matter will be checked into and run by the City Attorney before any decision can be made.

The next City Council meeting will be Tuesday, July 11th at 5 P.M.
