PCMS Holds Races During Labor Day Weekend

Phillips County Motor Sports put on a fine showing of competition over the Labor Day weekend. Scheduled as a three-day event, Mother Nature sent rain and cancelled races on Monday.

Nevertheless, 73 drag strip enthusiasts came to the hi-line to meet friends and compete in “The Small Town with the Big Track” once again before the season winds down locally at the end of September.

The Juniors entered several categories, including the Junior Gambler. Emerging as the winner in this event was Cason Neset of Tioga, N.D. and Havre’s Paislee Neiffer was runner-up.

Bruce Balcerzak of Clancy, Mont., won the Pro Gambler event, followed by Rayce Schultz of Canada. Balcerzak clocked 109.25 miles per hour, while Schultz had 94.46.

The third category, the Super Pro Gambler, was won by Ron Schultz of Swift Current, SK. Jesse Dobson was runner-up, and his hometown is Scobey, Mont.

Jesse Dobson came back to the tarmac to take the Box Super Pro hardware home, with his 127.59 miles per hour performance. He was edged on by Dylan Bergos of Malta clocking 109.09 miles per hour. Bergos was the only Malta entrant to lay claim to the trophy hardware for the weekend.

The No Box Pro entries placing were both from Canada. Tyler Zeller of Medicine Hat, AB. and Rayce Schultz (SK) placed as the winner and runner-up.

Running in the competition for the Sportsman race, Ann Stahl, if Glasgow, burned the track the fastest to win with 88.81 miles per hour, winning over Tim Secord of Columbia Falls finishing with his 86.89 miles per hour run.

Corey Schultz of Canada won the Golf Cart Race.

The local group is preparing for the final event of the season, with a race and annual fundraiser dinner scheduled for September 16th and 17th.
