Malta Elementary School WANTS YOU!

Malta Elementary School has started a new community outreach program, Business in Focus/Ag Connection. Any Phillips County business is encouraged to sign up and help serve breakfast on a Wednesday morning to the students, while also educating them on how their business is connected to agriculture.

Some businesses may think that they aren't connected in any way to agriculture, but maybe you provide the copy paper and ink for the local produce farmer to print paperwork and flyers, or maybe you serve farmers and ranchers during a conference at a restaurant with locally grown products.

Malta Elementary School's first Business in Focus business was Malta's own Phillips County Insurance. They stated, "We provide insurance for farmers and ranchers to help protect their crops, buildings, and equipment from disasters like hail or fire."

The most recent Business in Focus, Art's Furniture and Flooring said, "We sell leather furniture made from cow hides."

Businesses will help teach our young community members how agriculture touches almost every aspect of their lives, from buying locally grown pumpkins to carve into jack-o'-lanterns, to wearing that special Christmas sweater that your grandma made from her sheep's wool.

Agriculture is everywhere you look.

The idea for the Ag Connection portion of this outreach program came about as a way to extend the lessons from the recent Phillips County Cattlewomen's Ag Ed Day. When businesses share how a product on their shelf was made from a crop or how our local farmers and ranchers rely on a product or service provided, students will be reminded of the countless ways agriculture is vital to our individual lives and to our community.

Malta Elementary School will need a picture of the outside of your business building and a description of what agricultural-related product or service your business provides. The school will make and print a poster to be displayed for the students to look at.
