Malta, A Caring Community

To the Great Folks of Malta,

On November 1, 2023, one of our travel companions on the westbound Empire Builder Train experienced a medical emergency. That emergency necessitated a trip to the Phillips County Hospital by the Malta EMTs. Many thanks to the first responders who transported our friend to the hospital and the Sheriff Deputies, Faith Robinson and Taylor Matthews who transported my wife and me, and our large quantities of luggage to the Edgewater Inn & RV Park. There, we were welcomed on short notice and with the offer of some flexibility on the room, not knowing how long our stay might be. Our room attendant gave us transportation to the Malta train station the next day.

Fortunately, our companion was discharged, but it was recommended to return home after being discharged with a blocked carotid artery.

I visited a “walk thru” coffee shop and the West Self-Service Convenience store for sandwiches and drinks. My soda pop bottle needed a bottle opener, so I was directed to the store’s casino where the clerk opened my soda bottle for me and gave me a bottle opener to take with me on my further travels.

So, in closing, I want to let everyone know how impressed I am with Malta and its kind and generous folk, including the nice lady at the Phillips County News office where I am now writing this.
