Malta Food Bank Welcomes Volunteers

The acts of kindness, generosity and charity are evident and what makes some places both operate and strive.

The Malta Food Bank is proud to announce the addition of help at the office with two new volunteers coming onboard.

Mary Waters and Terri Skiff have joined the volunteers that administer assistance to many throughout the county, both in grocery goods and in donated items that are available for clients. Still manning the dispersion of goods is June Cornell, who is well-known as the Coordinator of the office. She is assisted by Myrna Williamson and Rosie Bednarczyk. The words of John Bunyan are appropriate for their service, “You have not lived today until you have done something for someone who can never repay you.” For giving definitely comes from the heart.

The Food Bank is located at 110 S 1 East, between the VFW Club and Davis Glass Works, in the right wing of the Senior Citizen Center. They are open from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Members of the Board of Directors for the Food Bank are Bob Johnson, who serves as president, Lynne Brewer, vice president, Mary Waters, secretary, and Terri Skiff serves as the treasurer.

Waters said. “We are grateful for the support of the community and their kind donations.” In addition to clothing for the family, the office also has small houseware items. They do not accept furniture.

Stop by and say hello to those who volunteer at the Food Bank, they always welcome another smiling face. If you are purging or downsizing or updating your house, closet or décor, consider making a donation to the Food Bank; they appreciate cleaned clothing as they have no facility to do laundry or cleaning.

If you are finding spare time on your hands, consider checking with the board members and see if you can assist when the delivery truck comes in or taking items to be donated to the office for others.

Remember, from a quote that covers being a volunteer, from Bette Reese, “If you think you are too small to be effective, you have never been in bed with a mosquito.”
