District 2 American Legion Meets

The Chinook American Legion Post 48 hosted the spring meeting of the American Legion and Auxiliary on Sat., March 9th. The members convened at the American Lutheran Church. Department Officers from Helena also joined those from the hi-line.

The Auxiliary members met and their agenda included Recognition of the POW/MIA with the covering of a chair with the drape of the POW/MIA emblem, silent time in remembrance of those who have passed since the last meeting, and the pledge to the flag followed. The preamble to the American Legion Auxiliary was recited.

Leila Siefert, President of the Glasgow ALA, addressed the group and gave updated information on the State Convention which will be held in Glasgow, Mont. on June 27-30.

Election of officers was held, following the re-election of the President, Kari Hould, a motion was made to retain the officers in their current positions. Included are 1st Vice President Lianna Heimbigner, 2nd VP Marlyn Damson, Chaplain Kathy Long, Sgt. at Arms Carolyn Schmoeckel, and Historian Penny Mackey. The Secretary-Treasurer currently held by Sharon Kindle is an appointed position. Six Units of District 2 were in attendance.

Kathy Long conducted a raffle, which along with the Money March, raised approximately $100.

Members of the American Legion met at the same time; they elected Jeb Damson as District Commander, Conrad Heimbigner as Adjutant and Finance Officer, Brian Carpenter as 1st Vice President, and Lowell Long as Parliamentarian. Other positions will be filled shortly. Members of the American Legion Riders were also in attendance.

During lunch, awards and recognition were handed out, there was a 50/50 drawing and drawing for various door prizes.

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary will meet again in the fall for their Fall Conference, tentatively set for being hosted by Big Sandy.
