MFU to Host Congressional Primary Debates April 30, May 3

As part of the organization’s commitment to education and legislation, Montana Farmers Union is again sponsoring Congressional Primary Debates to be held April 30 and May 3.

“For more than 100 years MFU has been representing the family farm and educating Montanans on issues important to rural Montana. Hosting the primary debates is an example of the role MFU plays in helping educate voters on the stances of the candidates,” MFU president Walter Schweitzer said.The debates are open to the public, with the Tuesday, April 30, Congressional District 2 Republican Primary debate scheduled to be held at Montana State University-Northern’s Student Union Building. The Friday, May 3, Congressional District 2 Democratic Primary debate will be held in Great Falls, with more details coming soon and available at http://www.montanafarmersunion.com. Both debates begin at 7 p.m. and are open for a live audience. They will be televised live on SWX Montana, as well as aired statewide on Montana radio stations.

All candidates filed with the Montana Secretary of State’s office in a contested race for the MT-2 Congressional District received an invitation to participate in their respective debates. Democratic candidates Ming Cabrera, John Driscoll, Kevin Hamm, and Steve Held, as well as Republican candidates Kyle Austin, Elsie Arntzen, Ken Bogner, Troy Downing, Ric Holden, Joel Krautter, and Stacy Zinn confirmed they will attend. Dennis Rehberg was also invited but declined to participate.
