Into the World of Dinosaur Mummy

GPDM To Launch New Exhibit May 18

The Great Plains Dinosaur Museum is excited to launch their new exhibit “Into the World of the Dinosaur Mummy” on Saturday, May 18th with free admission and a special showcase beginning at 4 p.m.

Utilizing tourism grant funds from the Montana Department of Commerce Eastern Montana Initiative, the project invested in technologies to develop an interactive wall exhibit, a marketing plan that included an updated website and social media campaign for an augmented exhibit focused on the Mummy Dinosaur, Leonardo. Discovered in Phillips County in 2000, the well-preserved Leonardo fossil (a duckbill dinosaur, Brachylophosaurus) is currently on loan to the Fukui Prefecture Dinosaur Museum, near the Sea of Japan where the exhibition draws 6000 visitors each day and necessary scientific research is ongoing. Working with Bret Wright, Executive Producer of Toolshed, located in Cut Bank, Montana, GPDM has been able to mesh a vision of making Leonard the “star of the show” with technology that is scalable and multi-purpose. The exhibit uses monitors that serve as a window to Leonardo’s natural environment and animation with capacity to connect to the Fukui Dinosaur Museum, it creates a variety of experiences for our visitors.

Graphic Designer Chelsea McKenna of Winnett, MT worked with GPDM leadership to create a successful marketing plan with updated images and a strong online and social media presence. The exciting new look of GPDM can be seen online or in the museum gift shop on new branded T-shirts, hats and other specialty items.

A ribbon cutting ceremony for the new exhibit “Into the World of the Dinosaur Mummy” will take place at 4 p.m. followed by a special look into the exhibit. Everyone is invited to stop by anytime, doors open at 10 a.m.
