Primary Election Results For Phillips County

As most of Phillips County rested comfortable on the evening of Tuesday, June 4th, the late night lanterns were burning the midnight oil well into Wednesday morning. A dedicated crew processed the election ballots and the office of the Clerk and Recorder at the court house closed after a long day. Some of the staff had arrived at work by 6:30 a.m., so they were ready to call it a day by 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Provisional votes were to be counted on Monday, June 10 at 3 p.m. These are the unofficial votes cast and counted Tuesday evening.

There were two contested races in this primary election. With three candidates running for State Representative in District 28, Eric Albus carried 178 votes, compared to 122 for Wayne Stahl and 58 for Mark Wicks.

The other contested race was for County Commissioner, which closed with Bruce Christofferson (Incumbent) getting 224 votes, and challenger Allen “Kip” Young receiving 134 votes.

Also on ballot was a ballot issue where voters were asked to vote for or against a Phillips County Local Government Review. The item failed with 223 votes against the review, and 162 votes in favor of. The City of Malta voted on the same issue, and voters voted 150 against, and 129 for. The Town of Saco also voted it down 37 against, and 25 votes for the review. The Town of Dodson was the only town to vote for a review; 12 votes were cast for the review and 7 voted against it.

In the bid for State Representative, local Jason Ulrich, was running unopposed, and carried the vote for the position.

Running for President of the United States, Republican Donald J. Trump, running unopposed, received 91% votes in favor of his election to the office. His opponent, Incumbent Joseph R. Biden, also received a state-wide vote of 91%.

In the race for US Senator, republican Tim Sheehy carried 74% of votes over Brad Johnson. Jon Tester, on the democratic ticket, carried 97% of votes over his opponent, Michael Hummert, who carried 3% of votes cast.

Ryan K. Zinke’s 74% of votes eliminated Mary Todd from the selection pool for November. She carried 26% of votes cast. The democrat party candidate, Monica Tranel, carried 100% of the democratic votes. Libertarian Dennis Hayes held in with 65% of their votes.

Nine individuals were on the ballot on the republican party designation in the bid for US Representative for District 2. Troy Downing emerged the party’s choice with 36% of the votes. The closest candidate to him was Denny Rehberg who received 17% of the votes.

Democrat candidates, only four in number for the same seat, cast their vote for John B. Driscoll, with 33% of votes over the closest challenger Steve Held.
