One Nation, Under God

Lorraine Francis (Moffatt) Stuff

Lorraine Francis (Moffatt) Stuff, 91, of Malta, MT went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 17th, 2014. Lorraine, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Phillips County Country Home in Malta. Lorraine was born July 17, 1923 in Milwaukee, WI. She is survived by her four children, Colleen Callahan (Otis VanLeeuwen) and Ron Stuff (Elizabeth) -who live in Phoenix, AZ and Tim Callahan (Crystal Koch) and LouAnn Kirk (Richard) -who live in the Seattle, WA area. She is also survived by seven grandchildren- Laura and Steven Kirk; Michael and Andrew Callahan; and Shelby, Kate and Jacob Stuff. In addition are her "adopted" daughter Joyce Russell and "adopted" grandsons Jonathan and Seth Siewing; and five of her eight siblings: June, Pearl, Ron, Richard and Douglas, all of the Milwaukee, WI area.

Lorraine moved to Malta in 1954 when she married the late Louis Stuff. For the last 60 years Lorraine has called Malta her home and its residents her extended family. Lorraine worked at the Equity Co-Op for many years then, later, at the Malta City Clerk's office until her retirement. Although Lorraine was the only one among her siblings to graduate high school, she championed education with each of her children. She was very proud of the fact that all her children graduated from college, including 2 with advanced degrees. Lorraine was also a woman of committed and devout faith. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, the Community Church and most recently, Grace Fellowship Church in Malta.

Although her children have lived away from Montana for many years, Lorraine benefitted greatly from the kindness, faithfulness and warmth of the many people in Malta who looked in on and helped her as her health failed the last few years. Her family wishes to express its deepest thanks and heartfelt appreciation to all those nearby who demonstrated such compassion and care during this time. Lorraine will be greatly missed by her family and friends; but we take comfort in the knowledge that she was sure of her salvation and comfortable at the time of her passing. At her request Lorraine will be cremated. A memorial services will be held in late September after which she will be interred next to her late husband, Louis, in the Stuff Family plot at the Grandview Cemetery in Saco, MT. Information about the memorial service will be published at a later date.
