Local Boy Scouts need communities help

Are you a veterinarian, banker, teacher, business owner, artist, or other professional? Do you have a specific hobby? Stamp collecting, coins, photography, cooking, gardening, etc.? Your local Boy Scout Troop needs your help. Boy Scouts do a variety of things, but are most famous for their campouts and outdoor activities. Boys in the Troop start out as Scouts. They need to work their way up the ladder and hopefully achieve the highest rank in Boy Scouts which is Eagle rank. In order to do this, they have to fulfill certain requirements and one of those is completing Merit Badges. That’s where you, the community, come into play.

We are looking for community members to step up and become Merit Badge Counselors. It’s really easy. First you need to watch a video which is appx. 20 -30 min, fill out an application and Merit Badge info, and that is it! This needs to be re-newed every 2 years. It really IS that simple. Once you become a counselor, all the info and paperwork you need is on-line and available at your fingertips. If you can’t get it, someone in the Troop can get it for you. The boys choose a Merit Badge they would like to work on, and then make arrangements with that counselor to complete the requirements for that Badge. As they complete Badges, they rank up.

The local Boy Scout Troop is in dire need of adults to step up and mentor them. What a great opportunity to share your knowledge, skills, and passion on something you already enjoy doing. Without Merit Badge counselors, our Boys are at a standstill in their ranking up. These Boys need you to support them on their journey to becoming Eagle Scouts. Listed are all the Merit Badges available. If you see one that fits your profession or hobby, please consider becoming a counselor for that Badge. The ones in Bold are Eagle requirements, meaning every one of those Badges must be obtained by a Scout to fulfill his Eagle rank. There are 12 Eagle Merit Badges required, but a Scout must have 21 Merit Badges total by the time they reach 18 years of age( those 12 and 9 others) to obtain the Eagle rank.

We will be hosting a potluck supper/Merit Badge sign up on October 27th at the Elementary Cafeteria starting at 5:30 PM. Please consider helping these boys and this great organization that inspires future leaders. Contact any member of Troop 1429 for more info on the Merit Badge List. Thank you.
