Four-legged chicken
Mrs. Russell Mann of Plentywood has discovered a four-legged chicken in her poultry flock. The other two legs were perfect formations and seemed to take the place of the wings. The little chick died shortly after being hatched.

School Notes
The Malta, Dodson and Saco Schools are sending very fine general exhibits to the State Fair. The boy and girl winning first prize in the corn and canning contests will be given a free trip to the State Fair.

Grist and Chaff: Siftings
Ump Omer Whitaker had a bit of a conflagration on his person while officiating at the Malta-Chinook baseball contest. A foul ball tipped off the end of a bat missed the catcher but brushed Whitaker's leg just enough to ignite some matches in his pocket! There was no fire department call; only a call to Believe-it-or-not Bob Ripley.
President approves $32,242 allotment for bird refuge
Wires from Senator James E. Murray and Congressman James E. O'Conner have been received here announcing the presidential approval of an allotment of $32,242 for a WPA project to conduct water, land and wildlife conservation work at the Lake Bowdoin migratory waterfowl refuge.

Dodson correspondent celebrates 93rd birthday
The Community Ladies Aid met at Mrs. Al Schulz's home Thursday afternoon, and since it was her 93rd birthday, they brought a birthday cake, ice cream, other goodies and fresh garden vegetables. Mrs. Schulz was so pleased that all her friends and neighbors remembered her birthday and all visited and stayed until late afternoon.
Toastmaster awarded to George Knudson
George E. Knudson was presented with the "Toastmaster of the Year" award by Gene Mendel at the meeting of the Toastmasters club Thursday evening.
Knudsen received the award on his outstanding address at the eighth grade graduation exercise at Malta, club attendance, membership and speeches for other organizations and outstanding evaluations.

500 fed as wagon train ends
About 500 hungry folks were fed at Trafton Park on Monday, Sept. 3, after the 21st Annual Wagon Train pulled into town and paraded by the Good Samaritan Center and the Phillips County Hospital, Country Home and Main Street.
Loran Green and Dave Humbert, chief cooks, assisted by Franklin Smith, Lyle and Boo Mayhew, Cheryl Sunford, Sid and Kari Hould and family, and Mike Carney, served up barbecued beef on buns, baked beans, coleslaw and corn on the cob, all free to the public.

New teacher in Dodson Classroom
Wendy Hopkins was born a Cole and raised on the Fort Belknap Reservation, where she lives today with her husband Steve, the maintenance supervisor at Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge.
A third generation Dodson Coyote, Wendy teaches junior high and high school science.
"I love the fact I'm back in familiar halls and looking forward to an awesome school year," she said.
