GRIT, GRUB, GRINS, GUTS and GRILLS As AMX Season Closes Out

Exhilarating. Spine-tingling. Breathtaking. Add those descriptions to a deluge of good ol' Montana rain and a race track and you have the elements that were present when the Dodson Speedway hosted the final competition for the 2015 season on October 3 and 4 at the Dodson Fairgrounds. Fifteen cars braved the elements and arrived to support the benefit fund raiser which was held to assist Tonya Messerly with her kidney ailment expenses. The cars had their work cut out for them with the track conditions. Cars were unable to get any speed, some couldn't navigate the mud. Windshields were covered quickly and skill and experience lended a helping hand to many. There were no rollovers, there was a lot of bumping and rubbing going on as cars were determined to inch ahead of their competition. One can only guess what the drivers looked like by the end of the rounds, unless you were fortunate enough to be hugged by one of the excited and enthusiastic competitors.

Ten cars competed in the A Main and B Main races and five registered and competed in the super stock division. The action packed weekend was cut short when it was decided to cancel the races for Sunday due to the extreme wet conditions on the track, following over an inch of rain. While the group was determined and dedicated and ran the best the elements would allow, the track was worse on Sunday than anticipated. Races on Saturday did not set or break any records as the cars muddled their way around the track. Heats were reduced to four laps for the B heats and then reduced to three laps for the finals in the A Main.

There wasn't anyone who attended the event that didn't have their fair share of good times, many smiles and tense moments while watching. One individual had come from Idaho to watch the races and was impressed with the amazing dedication and comradery of the family of racing families to provide such entertainment.

Winners in the event were: B Main Stock 1st Place Tony Bibeau - Havre, 2nd Place - Grace Williams - Lewistown, 3rd Place 272 Scott Hould – Malta. A Main Stock 1st Wes Lundstrom - Malta, 2nd Luke Brown - Malta, 3rd place Mike Plouffe – Malta.

A Main Super - 1st Place Frank Williams - Lewistown, 2nd Place Frank Kindle - Malta, 3rd Place Cody Monfils – Lewistown. Due to the conditions of the track, there was no Pit Man competition or Powder Puff.

Luke and Carol Brown provided lunch on Saturday, with Millie Kindle, Berta Anderson, Sharon Kindle and Jan Abrahamson assisting with evening meal. Sunday morning breakfast was hosted by Scott and Corrine Hould, Kari Hould and Janine Tuss.

Saturday the day closed out with the final bids on the Silent Auction items coming down to the wire as time came to a close. A heartfelt thank you to all those who so generously donated to the Silent Auction. And a special thank you to the sponsors of the trophies. Your support is appreciated!

We hope to see you in the stands when the 2016 season opens in June.
