One Nation, Under God

Everyone loves chicken, don't they? chickenMEWednesdays

Ever since it started snowing, it has been hard to get out of bed. While beautiful, winter is the most depressing season in my opinion.

Thank God for sports, otherwise I might be a shut-in. Go to work, go home. Re-peat. Luckily this County has several competitive teams in the winter season.

I love hearing the optimism in players’ and coaches’ minds at the start of basket-ball and wrestling season.

To see the hard work of our local athletes played out in games and meets is en-couraging to me. I’ve found that many of these games have provided me with memories I won’t likely forget, unless I take another blow to the head, like I did a few years ago at Walgreens.

Like last Tuesday, I was at the Malta JV – Dodson game, third quarter of the boys’ game was underway and somehow I walked into a miracle. This miracle, like many others I have encountered in life, involved food.

I was starving and jokingly I asked one of our athletes jokingly if he had enough chicken to share. Ironically it was Tyson Chicken from Albertsons. Like a moth to the flame I was led into the kitchen where the chicken was and four wings later I found that the students didn’t like a particular wing and there was a bag with my name on it.

I was out of my mind tired and they could have been boneless wings (yuck!) and I would’ve eaten them. But those Salt and Vinegar wings set me free! Free from the hunger of not eating dinner and having an early lunch.

So to the Carney family, I say thank you!

Other memories include seeing my son PJ play with other kids at the games and seeing my lovely wife with PJ in the stands.

Here’s to more memories and more chicken!
