Froshmore M-ettes defeat Mavs JV

The Malta M-ettes Froshmore squad picked up a win against the North Country JV team last Thursday, October 13. The M-ettes won in three with the scores being 25-17, 25-19 and 16-14.

The team was led by Carly Garfield who had four of 16 kills. Kelbee Denham had nine of 19 aces and seven of eleven assists. Chloe Hunter had six of 18 digs.

Kaylanna Bain shared the key to the team’s win that night. “Just being positive and just fighting to the end,” Bain said.

Bain eventually got to the real reason for the team’s success throughout the season. “We’ve been being positive and we get cake if we (reach our goals),” Bain said noting that her favorite cake was German Chocolate cake.

The cakes come from the M-ettes Froshmore Head Coach Cheyenne Young, who is an avid baker.

“They all set goals at the beginning of the year and they asked if they can get something if they met their goals,” Coach Young said. “I said sure, I’ll bake you something and they all screamed cake, so that’s what they got.”

Coach Young mentioned that they don’t get cake after every game which also included last Thursday’s game in which the team didn’t reach their goals.

“Just games that they meet their goals, stay positive and they stay loud,” Coach Young said. “They played very good today but they weren’t very loud so they’re not getting cake this week.”

She mentioned that her whole team did well, playing aggressive at the net and served well.

“They did very good on their serves this game,” Coach Young said. “They didn’t have very many miss-serves so it was nice for them to step up to the line and get them over.”

These cross county matches allow Malta players to face their friends from other schools across the county.

“I think its fun,” Bain said, noting that she only knew a couple of her opponents.
