Harriers to send five to State

The Dodson-Whitewater Harriers are off to the State Meet in Kalispell that will be run on Saturday, October 22. The team fared well in the Harlem Wildcat Invitational last Saturday, October 15. The event was held on a bike Path in Fort Belknap due to flooding at the golf course.

“They had to find a place that wasn’t muddy or underwater,” Harriers Coach Bruce Warren told the PCN. “There were small hills, a flat ground, then more small hills and it was all on pavement.”

The team was led by Corbain LoneBear who took ninth place for the boys with a time of 20:03. Trevor Walker took 11th with a time of 21:01 and Tyrese Messerly took 14th with a time of 21:12.

“They’ve done quite well this year for some of them being in their first year running,” Coach Warren said. “They’ve got good determination.”

Bella Lawless took 16th for the girls with a time of 26:56 and Serena Sanguins placed 31st with a time of 41:24.

“Bella has improved well this year,” Coach Warren said. “She’s been pretty steady.”

Coach Warren will be working with Lawless this week but he admits that she doesn’t need much more preparation.

“We’ll just be working on the finish,” Coach Warren said. “There isn’t too much more to work on. She’s got it down pretty well. There isn’t much more we can work on other than her surges.”

The team has qualified five of six members this season, including Jasper Doney, LoneBear, Messerly, Walker and Lawless.
