M-ettes advance to Northern B

With four of five of District 2B teams moving on to the Northern B Divisionals in Shelby on Thursday after last weekend's District 2B Tournament in Malta, it is not surprising that Malta advanced to the next round but how they did it. Malta was the only team to defeat the eventual District 2B Champion Glasgow Lady Scotties, who were previously undefeated against 2B opponents in 2016.

Glasgow went on to defeat Wolf Point for the Championship after climbing out of the elimination bracket.

Malta opened the tournament against the Harlem Wildcats and defeated Harlem 3-0 with the scores being 25-9, 25-10 and 25-23.

The M-ettes were led by senior Ella Schye who had nine kills. Schye also tied with Kyleigh Schipman for the team lead in digs with eight. Junior Sam Mitchell led in assists with 12 and in aces with four. Senior Julia Meisdalen had two of three team blocks.

"Teamwork played a huge role in it," Meisdalen said. "We were all talking, being friendly and supported each other."

Senior Chanel Lett expanded on Meisdalen's statement.

"We didn't beat up on each other if we messed up," Lett said. "We all looked at each other and said, good job and kept everybody up. And we just played our hardest to our potential."

Schye looked at the technical side of the win.

"We played good defense and we were getting really excited and kept the momentum," Schye said. "We had trouble in the last game but we got through it."
