Season ends for Dodson

Coyotes, Lady Coyotes see last action in Glasgow

The season ended for the Dodson basketball teams last Friday in consolation at the 3C District Tournament in Glasgow last Friday, February 17.

The Dodson Coyotes' hopes to continue ended on Friday evening as the team fell 51-42 to the Lustre Christian Lions, who then lost out in the District's consolation game.

The Coyotes were led in their loss by junior David Jaynes, who scored 12 points. Sophomore Tyrese Messerly added 10 points and freshman Shaun Ball scored nine.

The Coyotes lost their opening game to the North Country Mavericks 73-41. The team was led by Corbin LoneBear who had 12 points. Messerly added ten points.

The Lady Coyotes were defeated 78-63 in the first round of consolation on Friday evening.

The young team was led by eighth grader Melony Fetter who had 23 points. Freshman Christina Jaynes had eight points and senior Mikaeya RunsAbove added seven.

The Lady Coyotes lost their opener to Lustre Christian 46-26.

The team's leading scorer was Shontelle Talks Different, who scored 11 points off of the bench. Donna Dale had four points. Jaynes, Fetter and Laney Cole had scored three points a piece.

The team stayed with Lustre in the first quarter, with the score being 13-9 in Lustre's favor at the end of the period.

"Our first game was definitely not ideal," Lady Coyotes Head Coach Kill Eagle said. "I felt good going in against Lustre and the first quarter was awesome."

The second quarter was a complete contrast as the team was only able to score six points, while allowing 12.

"The girls just couldn't find their groove," Coach Kill Eagle said. "It was pretty frustrating as a coach knowing what they are capable of and then not being able to help them get out of that funk and do what I know they can do."

The Lady Coyotes continued to struggle offensively and were outscored 10-8 in the third quarter and then 11-3 in the fourth.

"They know it's not over," Coach Kill Eagle said. "They know they're young and they have years to come. They're all hungry. That's exciting. They are all hungry and they can't wait until June when Coach Frank Benson and I can hit the gym with them again."
