Howard Long

Howard Long, 85, of Malta passed away June 15, 2017. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Church, Friday, June 23, at 11 a.m. followed by interment at Malta Cemetery. Howard was born February 27, 1932, at Big Beaver, Saskatchewan, Canada to Bruce and Dorthia (Lutz) Long and attended school at Red Stone Grade School. He married Delores Vancuren on February 26, 1953, at Big Beaver, Saskatchewan and made their home in Red Stone, Mont. They later moved to Wolf Point, Helena and eventually settled in Malta. While in Wolf Point Howard was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Elks Club.

Throughout Howard's life, he worked the railroad, construction and was a lineman for MDU Power for 20 years. He had 10 beloved grandkids followed by 17 great grandchildren, all of whom would brighten his mood and bring a smile to his face when entering the room. Howard found joy in watching horse races, playing whist and socializing. He was very much a people person and could spark a conversation with any random person he encountered.

Survivors include: Howard's wife Delores, Daughter Marion (Joe) Peigneux of Malta, Son Jeffrey (Elaine) Long of Wolf Point, son Wesley Long of Helena, Brothers Gene of Helena and Bernard of Wolf Point, and sisters Marion Holman of Malta and Donelda Peterson of Denver, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Sharon Rowe, brothers Wesley and Leonard, and his sister Helen.
