Malta sweeps Porcupine Invitational Meet

Needing to make up for lost time, Malta's track teams participated in the Nashua Porcupine Invitational Meet last Friday, April 20, held at Scottie Field in Glasgow.

The Mustangs and M-ettes, the event's lone class B Teams won both of their respective events. The M-ettes won the women's event with a total of 159 points. The Mustangs won the men's event with a total of 115.5 points.

Turner took second place in both events with 102 points in the men's event and 65 in the women's event. Saco took third in both events with 66 in the men's event and 62 in the women's event.

M-ETTES

Freshman Erica Smith led the charge for Malta, winning two events. Smith won the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.64 seconds, and the triple jump with a length of 32-6. Smith set new personal records (PR) in both of those events.

"I think things are going good," Smith said of her strong start to the track season. "I just have to keep practicing."

Smith also took fifth place in the long jump, leaving a mark at 14-0. She won the event a few days prior at the Scottie Qualifier on Monday, April 16, with a mark at 15-6.5 (PR).
