P.C. Class C teams rack up meets

The Dodson Coyotes, Saco Panthers, and Whitewater Penguins track teams saw plenty of action last week, with all three teams participating in both the Cal Wearley Memorial (CW) in Havre on Wednesday, April 25 and the Glasgow Invitational on Saturday, April 28.

Saco saw additional action, attending the Richey-Lambert Fusion Invitational (RL) on Friday, April 27, at the Lambert Sports Complex.

BOYS

In the boy's action, Whitewater's Trace Simonson took first place in both discus events, with a throw of 136-10 at the CW and a season record (SR) throw of 139-4 at the CW. Simonson also took third in the Glasgow triple jump with a SR of 37-1.5 and fourth in shot put with a SR of 38-10.25.

Saco's Ty Murphy took first place at the CW pole vault event by clearing 11-6. His mark was so high that one helper struggled getting the bar set on that cold and windy day.

"It feels pretty good because the wind is with us and it kind of pushes you more into the mat," Murphy said. "It's not the worst day. At least it's not like our first meet (in Glasgow) where the wind was blowing 50 miles per hour."

Murphy who cleared 12-feet earlier this season wants to keep improving.

"I set my goal for 12-feet because it is the qualifying standard for state," Murphy said. "Now I gotta get 12-6, going 12 isn't good enough."

Saco sophomore Brady Albus, who set the school's 800 time of 2:05.30 at the CW meet while taking second, won the event in the RL meet with a time of 2:08.22.

Albus took second place in the RL 400 with a time of 56.75.

She explained that high jump was her favorite event.

"The adrenaline when I get over the bar," Zeller said.

Having only a few more weeks in high school Zeller shared where she wanted to see herself by the end of the season.

"At state again in long jump and high jump," Zeller said.

Whitewater's Kia Wasson took second place in the CW and Glasgow 1600 events, with a PR of 6:05.12 in Havre and a time of 6:09.03. She was fifth in the CW 3200 with a time of 13:28.71, a time she was not pleased with.

"I probably could've strided-out more," Wasson said.
