Malta Swim Team heads to Lewistown

The Malta Swim Team only has one more meet before the Divisional Meet in Chinook.

The swimmers head to Lewistown this weekend, after spending last weekend in Scobey.

“Everyone did really well,” Malta Swim Team Head Coach Shay Garfield told the PCN. “I'm very proud of everyone. I am pretty sure everyone took off time. Everyone has been taking off times every weekend so far. We are getting better every week.”

Garfield saw one of her biggest teams in the last month as the Malta Swim Team featured ten swimmers in Scobey.

“You have to have two weeks in before divisionals and there had been many on vacation,” Coach Garfield said.

In Scobey, Jillian O'Brien led Malta with 38 points, having won first place in the Women's 15-19 100 Fly with a time of 1:30.45 and first in the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:32.12.

O'Brien also took third in the 200 IM with a time of 3:07.55.

“Jillian won the Breaststroke in a really close race and she kicked everyone's butt on the 100 Fly,” Coach Garfield said.

Darrow Messerly scored 33 points, taking first in the Boy's 13-14 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:24.76, third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:59.57, and fourth in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:26.75.

Jahmiah Huffman LaBrie scored 32 points, taking second in the Boys 50 Backstroke with a time of 47.17, third in the 100 IM with a time of 1:54.86 and third in the 50 Fly with a time of 49.35.

Connor Tuss took second in the Boy's 13-14 200 IM with a time of 2:58.14 and second in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:22.64.

“Connor did really well,” Coach Garfield said. “He ended up taking 12 seconds off of his IM, and over five seconds off of his 200.”

Lauren Tuss took second place in the Girl's 11-12 Freestyle with a time of 3:15.67.

Danika Wilke took third in the Girl's 9-10 100 Freestyle with a time of 1:32.53.

The Lewistown Meet is scheduled to start on Saturday, July 21, and end on Sunday, July 22.

“Every weekend I expect whoever goes out to be competitive, try their best,” Coach Garfield said. “The goal is to better yourself from last weekend.”
