One Nation, Under God

Phillips County Museum News for May 1, 2019

An exciting part of Museum work is never knowing what is going to come through the door to be donated. Sometimes is large, sometimes It’s small, sometimes it smells like mothballs, and sometimes it’s in tatters.

But among the questionable items sometimes a real “gem” arrives. This week we received a large number of old Whitewater School Newspapers. Does the name Sally Ivanovitch sound familiar? She is named in the honor roll as a junior. A student had a great editorial and I thought I would share it.

Here is the young man’s opinion:

“Well, here it is paper time again. Not too much has been done to correct the problem of the teenagers. Now all of you know that we no longer have a restaurant. So here is our chance. Why not ask the owner if he would be willing to fix the building up so that a teen center could be put into it. It might cost quite a sum now but it would bring a big problem under control! You know we would be ahead of the Malta young people. In Malta, there are only a few things for the teenager to do. Malta just has movies, and dance once in a great while. I know this for a fact cause I have a year and a half experience. Let’s give it a try. Let's GO, FOLKS!!!”

If you would like to take a look at these old Whitewater newspapers museum hours are Mon-Saturday 10-5.
