Color Fun Run slated for Saturday

The City of Malta Parks and Recreation Department is holding their 3rd Annual Color Fun Run this Saturday, June 1.

Last year’s run hosted 95 runners and raised over $900 for the department. The annual fundraiser remains one of the biggest annual fundraisers for the department that has brought over a dozen events and sports events to the community of Malta.

“It really does help our department out a lot,” Malta Parks and Recreation Director Julia Tatafu said.

The run will feature five color stations that will be run by different companies and sponsors from around Phillips County. Though Tatafu didn’t share which groups will be present, she did share that the event will feature blue, green, purple, red, and orange color stations.

“Runners will get to vote on which station they thought was the most festive,” Tatafu said. “In the past we have had stations with (decorations), music going, people dressed in costumes, and that makes it fun for the runners. It kind of gives them a little burst of energy.”

Last season, Independence Bank was the most festive station.

This year’s course will be reversed in efforts to bring runners to the dreaded Short Oil Road sooner rather than being one of the last obstacles of the race.

The race is set to begin at Riverview Park, the park behind the west side of Malta High School. The cost to participate in the race is $15 per adult, $5 for children aged 4 to 17, and free for kids three and under.

Those who registered before Friday, May 24, will receive a T-shirt in time for the race. Though the deadline to receive the t-shirt by the day of the race has passed, runners and walkers are welcome to register up to the day of the race.

The 5K run will start at 8:30 a.m. and the one mile run will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1.

Runners can wear dark clothing if they wish to run without getting doused by fun run powder.
