Spring sports season in danger

Last Monday Spring practices started for schools around the county. The dust was being knocked off of golf clubs, javelins, and various other pieces of track equipment, but now schools throughout Montana have no choice but to shelf equipment until mid-April at the earliest.

The Montana High School Association's Executive Board held an emergency meeting on Monday to discuss how long the 2020 spring sports season should be put on hold as Montana and the Country as a whole tries to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

"The MHSA Executive Board, during a conference call to conduct Association business on Monday morning, took the following action regarding MHSA Spring Activities," said MHSA Director Mark Beckman said in a press release. "All MHSA spring activities will be indefinitely suspended until further notice. This includes practices and contests/meet/festivals. The Executive Board will reevaluate this situation on April 13th and any additional information regarding spring activities will be provided as it becomes available. If spring activities are resumed, the practice requirement for sports at that time will be five practices from resumption except for golf which will be the normal two practices required. Postseason formats will be adjusted by conferences as necessary with MHSA approval. Thank you and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me."
