Malta Has 14 Golfers This Spring

The Malta Golf Team features 14 athletes this season with a variety of golfing experience.

The team welcomes back state performing Mustang and M-ette golfers from the 2023 season. Those golfers include senior Hunter Stolem and junior Kellen Murray from the mens' team and junior Brittney Sorlie and sophomore Kylie Bishop from the girl's team.

"Our teams this year are eager to get out and compete after coming back from a State appearance with our men's team and placing third and our women's team last year," Malta Head Coach Kate Webb said. "The early warm weather has everyone ready to golf. We have some new players to our program this year that we are excited to have with us, indicating to us that golf is continuing to be a growing program and sport for us in Malta. I am looking forward to what the season brings for our teams!"

According to Coach Webb, the team has set individual goals that are set to each player's strengths and weaknesses.

"As a team I think both teams are looking to return for a State appearance," Coach Webb said. "We are looking to maximize our knowledge and application of the rules of golf, strengthen our short game play, and focus on perseverance and stay connected through the tough holes and shots that come their way."

The team has been able to practice outside for most of the season so far, having only spent one week inside.

"We were able to get to the golf course to hit at the range and were able to get in 9 holes last week!" Coach Webb said. "We are so fortunate to have Cory and his crew at Marian Hills to get the course ready for us to be on early! Last year at this time the weather didn't allow for us to be out so early, so we are soaking in the opportunity to be outside and not taking it for granted."

Malta's full roster includes: M-ettes: Brittney Sorlie (11th), Kylie Bishop (10th), Emree Stuart (10th), and Amelia Johannessen (9th). Mustangs: Hunter Stolem (12th), Kellen Murray (11th), Charlie Brettin (11th), Brayden Rhoads (11th), Jonah Bucks (11th), Regan Stuart (8th), Kruise Stiles (8th), Michael Love (8th), Trevor Knowles (8th), and Thatcher Marquis (8th).
