PCMS: Heat Wave on the Track and Off

It was a hot weekend in Malta with the temps reaching triple digits on both days, but that didn't stop the race enthusiasts from speeding down the track at the Hi-Line Drag Strip.

Even though the borders aren't open yet so that our Canadian friends can come and join in the fun, there was a good number of cars on the track this weekend. 61 cars on Saturday, and 56 on Sunday.

Track President Dan Stout said, "We're hoping they (Canadians) can get down here for our races in September over Labor Day weekend."

In the Junior Dragster Division, the numbers have been growing each week. This week, there were five juniors on the track.

On Saturday, Deagan Liedtke beat Keylee Wolff in the final. Liedtke had a 10.59 dial-in and a 10.6356 ET vs. a 7.93 dial-in and a 7.9409 ET. Liedtke won it on the line when Wolff jumped the lights by -.0148 seconds.

On Sunday, Wolff was back in the final. This time against Kaedon Smith. Smith won this one as Wolff again got the red light on the start, this time by only -.0069 seconds.

In the Junior Dragster season point standing, Ava Lloyd is in the lead with 244 points. By making both finals this weekend, Keylee Wolff is in second with 222, Kaedon Smith and Deagan Liedtke are tied for third with 172, and Blake Lloyd is in a tie for fifth with Talan Liedtke both having 22 points.

In the Sportsman Division, Kent Johnson made an appearance in the finals on both days. On Saturday, Johnson lost to the current season points leader Alvin Hollatz. Hollatz had a dial-in of 8.40, an ET of 8.46, a reaction time of .0280, and a top MPH of 80.00. Johnson had a dial-in of 8.09, an ET of 8.1296, RT of .1048, and a top MPH of 83.13.

On Sunday, Johnson reversed his fortune and won in the final, beating out C.W. McCarthy.

In the season point standings, Alvin Hollatz leads the way with 605 points. There is a tie for second between Craig Shaw and Bobbi Wilkins, both sitting at 455 points. There is another tie for fourth between Kenda Young and Kent Johnson with 422 points.

The Pro Division was the only division this week with four different drivers in the final races over the two days.

Saturday's race came down to Jason Erfle and Jake Hentges, with Erfle getting the win when Hentges busted out. Erfle had a dial-in of 6.45, an ET of 6.4797, a RT of .0928, and a top speed of 106.56. Hentges had a dial-in of 7.92, and an ET of 7.9075, running just a bit faster than he thought he would.

On Sunday, the final saw Willi Denboer go up against Kenneth West. West won this match-up on the line, as Denboer red lit with a -.0055 RT.

The points leader in the Pro division thus far is Steve Purkett with a total of 655 points. There is a tie for second between Kenneth West and Stacey Klungland with 605 points. Jake Hentges is in fourth with 555, and Larry Lloyd is in fifth with 505 points.

In the Super Pro division on Saturday, Syl Schied Jr. beat out points leader John Enno when Enno busted out. Schied had a dial-in of 6.03, an ET of 6.0409, a RT of .0227, and a top speed of 113.64 mph.

On Sunday, Schied Jr. was again in the final against Dan Olsen. Olsen won this match on the line when Schied Jr's reaction time was .0009 seconds too quick.

John Enno leads the Super Pro point standings with 755 points. There is a tie for second between Dan Olson and Jesse Dobson with 605. Syl Schied Jr. is in fourth with 372 points, and Adam Potter is in fifth with 272 points.

The next races at the Hi-Line Dragstrip will be over Labor Day Weekend. A three-day event on September 4-6.

The fourth will have a Quick 16 and Gambler followed by the Fundraiser Banquet that night. The fifth will be a points race, and the sixth will have an Iron Man and the last points race of the season.
