One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, August 18, 2021

Montana fires are all over. Let’s hope and pray they are out.

The Phillips County Fair was so fun and wonderful!! I went three days! Friday, I looked at the exhibits and animals. Congrats to all the winner (including my WW News Book and “Hills Beyond Whitewater Creek” book.

Irene Wendalyn (Chinook) and I went to Friday’s concert. It featured 3 music groups, all were great especially “Reckless Kelly”,

Suppertime we ate at the 4-H booth. We had hamburgers, pie etc. Saturday in the morning, Irene and I went to rummage sales and Farmers Market that the Loring Colony has in Malta.

Back to the fair on Saturday, we visited people I had not seen for a long time. Some were Linda (Miller) Johnson formerly of Whitewater, also Rose Teska from Saco who runs the vegetable and grain booth at the fair. Also ate with Dixie (Dunbar) Moore and grandson Nolan. Nolan won prizes on his cat! Way to go! They live in Malta.

Sunday feature was the rodeo. Participants were Guy and Carli Simonton of Whitewater.

The Indian Relay Races were exciting. That takes practice and talent. Families gathered and honored their culture, heritage and ancestors with words and song in their native language. All very impressive.

They also served homemade frybread, delicious, so I ate again.

Most of Montana has a real drought, this includes Dodson. However, the races on Sunday were cut short by the rain. It even turned from 90 temps on Sunday to cold rain temperatures. It rained in Whitewater too!

Wonderful! All of the 2021 Phillips County Fair was so fun!
