One Nation, Under God

Whitewater News & Opinion for Wednesday, November 3, 2021

Sympathy to the victims of the floods down south. They can send some rain to us in Montana!

It was good to visit with Gene Brown (my nephew) while he was here in Whitewater. Gene took me to Malta and back. He retired from the U.S. Navy where he served for over 30 years! Gene’s wife Anita passed away recently. Now he is moving from Las Vegas, back to his home state of Montana. Best of luck Gene.

Many people are moving to our Montana. This drives the prices of rent and houses way up. It also makes finding affordable housing difficult.

Many ranchers (including Sally Austin) shipped/sold cattle at Glasgow Livestock. They have been forced to sell most of their herd as there is no hay due to the drought.

They say this is the worst drought since 1985.

Many Whitewater people including myself attended the funeral of Cliff Rustad. He was an auctioneer for many years. One of his daughters Laurie, lives on the old Hanson homestead, here in Whitewater.

Warren Taylor and Bill Abrahamson played and sang at Cliff’s funeral. Beautiful music.

Whitewater school hosted Junior High Basketball on Tuesday.

The school is having a concert on Wednesday at 1p.m. This includes all grades K-12.

Halloween is almost here. Personally, I don’t like Halloween. Today, Halloween is pretty tame. When I grew up, things got wild. Some kids actually tipped over out houses, soaped windows, threw eggs on cars. Some would harness a milk cow. (That was harmless, but stupid).

However, most children went “trick or treating”. They would get delicious homemade doughnuts that my mom Martha Austin went to so much work to make. So did other ladies.

Here’s an old saying:

“Don’t believe anything you hear, and half of what you see”.

Have a good week!
