Lady Coyotes Basketball 2021-22

Lady Coyotes young but determined

The Dodson Lady Coyotes welcome back plenty of youth and talent in 2021.

The team saw an exit in the 3C District tournament last year, but the squad has been working in the offseason to improve their game.

The team lost one of its two All-Conference starters from last season, as Melony Fetter graduated last spring. The team will also be without Ireland Best, who also graduated.

The team welcomes back sophomore Kataya KillEagle, who also earned All-Conference honors last season.

Joining KillEagle in the starting lineup are two experienced starters in junior Lindsey Fetter and Jean Jackson. The team will welcome a pair of new starters including sophomore Imagin Fox and eighth-grader Jazlyn KillEagle.

Dodson Head Coach Clayton KillEagle was asked about his starters, and he began with Fetter.

"Lindsey brings the defense with her quick hands and IQ of the game," Coach KillEagle said. "She can read almost every pass and when she spots a weakness she will attack it."

He then started talking about KillEagle, who he said has been working hard during the offseason.

"Kataya has put in much work in the offseason with camps and team tournaments," Coach KillEagle said. "Her improvement will not be unnoticed. She brings a lot of offensive power and perimeter shooting."

Jackson, who has proven to her coach to be a rebounder and rim protector, was mentioned next.

"Her ability to rip the ball when it's near her will add a lot to our starting five," Coach KillEagle said.

The team is welcoming Fox as their starting point guard this season.

"Imagin will be running our 1-spot and setting up most of our transition plays, as well as coordinating our defense," Coach KillEagle said. "Her work in the off-season also will not go unnoticed."

He then talked of Jazlyn KillEagle, the younger sister of Kataya.

"Jazlyn brings a spark of aggression and basketball IQ and impressive vision of the floor," Coach KillEagle said. "She followed her sister to camps and tournaments as well in the offseason."

Dodson's reserve players include freshman Jaymiee Stiffarm, and eighth-graders Kylee Ball and Lillian Turns Plenty.

"We are a very young squad this season, but ready and determined to catch some attention this year as well as seasons ahead," Coach Kill Eagle said.

The Lady Coyotes had a rough outing against the more experienced Hays-Lodge Pole Thunderbirds. Dodson lost 63-21. The game was played on Friday, December 3. The team had an impromptu off week, this past week. The team instead hosted a team meet-and-greet which introduced the community to the Coyotes and Lady Coyotes.
