M-ettes defeat Stars, Panthers

The Malta M-ettes posted a pair of dominant wins last week as the team defeated the Rocky Boy Lady Stars 76-32 on Thursday, February 3, in Malta, and then defeated the Roundup Lady Panthers 62-12 on Saturday, February 5, in Roundup.

Malta is scheduled to play Poplar on Friday, February 11, at the MHS gymnasium at 7:30 p.m. The Mustangs will then face the Shelby Coyotes on Saturday, February 12, in Shelby, at 5:30 p.m. The M-ettes defeated Harlem 66-46 in a make-up game last Monday, February 7. Details of that game will be in the February 16 issue of the PCN.

In Malta's win over Rocky Boy, Addy Anderson led the team with 16 points, eight rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Anderson was 3-for-3 from behind the arc.

Justine Lamb had 13 points, six rebounds, and five steals. Maddie Williamson had nine points, four steals, four assists, and four rebounds. Allison Kunze had seven points, ten rebounds, and two blocks. Arena Niebur had seven points, Giona Lamb had six points, Gracie Honey had five points, Kelbee Nelson had five points, Elly Anderson had four points, Lauren Tuss had two points, and Brylee French had two points.

"We tried to take care of the ball more," French said after the win. "We shot the ball fairly well tonight, so that was a plus. Almost everyone got in the book for a shot."

Williamson shared what it was like seeing the reserve players get points.

"We played really good together," Williamson said. "We came out and played with a lot of intensity. It was really good to see all of the players on the bench get playing time and get points."

Malta jumped out to a 19-7 lead after the first quarter, and continued to outscore Rocky Boy in the final three quarters; 21-7 in the second, 13-4 in the third, and 23-14 in the fourth.

The M-ettes had 40 rebounds, while the Lady Stars had 20. Malta scored 17 second-chance points and 29 points off of the bench. Malta also had a total of 17 steals and forced 20 turnovers.

Malta's defense did not allow Roundup to score more than five points in any quarter in their win Saturday night.

Malta was led by Kunze who had 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three steals. Williamson had 11 points, six rebounds, and four steals. G. Lamb had eight points and three rebounds. J. Lamb had seven points, six rebounds, and two steals. A. Anderson had seven points, four assists, and three rebounds. Kennedy Koss had four points and two steals. E. Anderson, Kylee Nelson, and Arena Neibur each had three points.
