Malta finishes season 7-1 in 2B Games

The postseason for the Malta Mustangs basketball team has arrived. The team ended the regular season on a high note, defeating Poplar 85-41 on Friday, February 11, in Malta, and challenging Shelby in a 52-41 loss.

The Mustangs basketball team enters this week's tourney as the top seed, having gone 7-1 against district 2B opponents in the regular season.

The District 2B Tournament is scheduled to take place at Glasgow High School starting on Thursday, February 17.

In earning the top spot, on Friday at 6:30 p.m. Malta will face the winner of Game 1 between Glasgow and Poplar, a game that takes place on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

If Malta is able to win, the team will head to the championship game against the winner of game 2, which features Wolf Point and Harlem. The Championship is scheduled for Saturday, at 8 p.m.

In their win over Poplar, Malta was led by freshman Bohdi Brenden who had 15 points. Rex Williamson had 11 points, Carson Ottinger had 11 points, and Jared Eggebrecht had 10 points.

Malta outscored Poplar in every quarter. 22-11 in the first quarter, 20-9 in the second quarter, 20-17 in the third quarter, and 20-4 in the fourth quarter.

In Malta's loss to Shelby, Connor Tuss, who made his return against Poplar, led Malta with 13 points. Williamson scored seven points. Stockton Oxarart and Eggebrecht each had six points.

Shelby was led by Rhett Reynolds who scored 20 points and Trenton Emerson who had 18 points.

The Mustangs hosted the Harlem Wildcats on Monday, February 7, and lost 97-74.

The Mustangs were led by Williamson who had 20 points. Brenden had 14 points, Eggebrecht had 11 points, Jonathan Siewing had eight points. Kaden Bishop had seven points.

Malta was outscored 23-8 in the first quarter, but had an offensive output of 35 points in the second quarter while holding Harlem to 18 points. The game was 45-43 in favor of the Mustangs at halftime.

While Malta's offense again was held to eight points, Harlem scored 27 in the third and outscored Malta again 29-23 in the final quarter.
