One Nation, Under God
For the first time in a couple of years, my whole family came with me to postseason basketball and wrestling tournaments.
Everyone but Lincoln, our three-year-old, was NOT excited about basketball initially. His first basketball experience this season was at the Northern B Division Tournament in Glasgow, where our Mustangs were able to earn the Northern B Title over Harlem, who has been an impressive team to watch this season.
Despite Lincoln’s original disapproval in going to the game, it seemed as though he had the most fun. He asked to go to basketball again for a couple of days straight.
PJ, our seven-year-old, didn’t understand why the Mustangs aren’t a professional team and wasn't a fan until we told him about high school basketball. Their win, despite the heckling that they experienced from several Northern B schools, made an impression on him and his little brother.
They caught the bug; now they both want to be Mustangs.
I will say that I am proud of our fans after these tournaments. I didn’t feel anyone went over the top. I didn’t see anyone get kicked out. I thought our student section was more respectful than others. And when a kid crossed the line, I saw one of our cheerleaders correct them.
That cheerleader, who I won’t name, showed me something. She showed me a lot of courage at that moment. It was awesome to see. It was likely why our student section kept things respectful.
I am proud of every single one of our athletes, who left it all on the floor. If I missed anything in the writeups, I do apologize. I love watching you all compete and am proud of you.
State basketball in Bozeman gave our family a great time, minus the stomach bug which three out of four of us caught.
I was spared the wrath of that bug, that made many at the postseason games violently ill. I blame it on my love of Kombucha.
I believe that my late-night sips on a big can of Kombucha Tea, saved me from the stomach bug. And for that I am thankful.
I am also thankful for your support of the PCN. We are in some weird times, but being able to write this county’s history is a joy. I am looking forward to the spring sports season!
Random fact. The PCN’s previous Publisher, Mark Hebert, sent my boys a care package, full of baseball and football cards. They have been going through them over and over again! I will try my best not to raid Lincoln’s stash because a lot of those cards are some of my favorite Chicago sports athletes including Frank Thomas, who was my favorite baseball player growing up.
I hope everyone has a great week!
