Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen cuts fees for Montana businesses

Montana Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen is proud to announce registration fees for Montana businesses have been cut in half.

"Due to increased efficiencies in our office, we are able to lower fees for our Montana businesses. Those businesses are the backbone of our great state and cutting fees in half is one step to help them achieve their goals," said Secretary Jacobsen. "Thousands of businesses will benefit in the estimated savings of more than a million dollars each year."

"Montana businesses deserve less government deterrents in their day-to-day operations," she continued.

Effective July 1, the Secretary of State's Office cut fees in half for new Montana business registrations, including Domestic Limited Liability Companies (LLCs). Approximately 29,000 Domestic LLCs were created in Montana in 2021 according to the Montana Business Economic Report.

Several other fees have been waived entirely.

An estimated 34,580 businesses will benefit from the reduced or eliminated fees each year, resulting in an estimated $1,139,825 annual savings for those businesses based on the three-year average of the affected filings.

Montana has experienced record growth in new business registrations over the last two years, and, in addition, the online business filing system implemented in December 2020 provides efficiencies that reduce the review and processing time by the Secretary of State Office's staff.
