Friday the 13th unlucky for some area farmers as fire burns acres

Dave Hinman has proof Friday the 13th can be unlucky—all he has to do is point at the burned acreage on his farm. A wildfire the afternoon of the 13th started about 5 p.m. and covered acreage owned by Tim Bruckner, George Drabbs, and Hinman.” It was pretty hectic around here, so I really don’t know how many trucks or people showed up.” Hinman estimated the acreage he lost to be anywhere from 500 to 700 acres. He is uncertain how many acres burned on the Drabbs and Bruckner portions of the fire.

County Horses to be Featured on Fair Program

County horses will again be featured in the racing program at the P.C. Fair August 9 and 10, says Edgar Lee, fair board president who was in Malta this last week. President Lee said that the experience with local horses during the war years provided that a race program with local horses during the war was as good, or better than those with circuit horses, so the board saw no reason to change its system.
