Last Week was Brutal! Things are Better Now

It seems that things are finally getting better in terms of my double-eye muscle surgery.

Last Monday was intense. I was struggling pretty bad throughout the first week of recovery. My eyes were so dry and irritated that I couldn't keep my eyes open for long amounts of time.

After not being able to work for a few days after my surgery, I forced the issue on Monday. I have been trained to work through nearly anything on Monday. I believe the only Monday that I may have missed was during the birth of one of my sons.

I probably shouldn’t have worked last Monday, but I did, relying heavily on the PCN staff who worked diligently and helped more than ever to put out last week’s paper. Jennifer, Wanda, and Kari are amazing!

I was nowhere near 100 percent, but again, I forced the issue and because of it, I put a lot of stress on my eyes. Sorry for the following graphic statement, but it felt like sandpaper was on my eyelids. It also felt like my eye muscles were going to cramp. My ability to drive was even compromised and so I took Tuesday afternoon off to lay down in my dark room with my eyes closed, similar to a vampire, zombie, or something afraid to let the light in.

I hadn’t been able to contact my surgeon but I had later found out that it was very well possible that I had an allergic reaction to the eye drops that were prescribed to me. Unfortunately, I found out that valuable piece of info one week later after trying to reach them several times.

My eye muscles continued to look angry and swollen, so I decided to reach out to my surgeon's nurse, and the service was more prompt than the first seven times I had called. The doctor had prescribed me a different eye drop and since then, things have been looking up!

I have little or no discomfort in my eyes until later in the day and things are less swollen.

It is now almost two weeks after my surgery, and I don’t feel like a million bucks, but I feel a lot better and am more optimistic. I am hoping to get back into the weight room by the end of the week, and I have finally gotten back on my low-carb diet. Ironic that I finally restarted my diet on the week of Thanksgiving. Reese’s NutRageous was my junk food of choice during my recovery, followed closely by Cheeze-its and chili dogs.

I definitely tried to eat my pain and discomfort away, but I am glad to get back on track.

I appreciate all that have reached out to me. This has been a roller coaster ride, but I am glad that after many years of talking about it, my eyes are straight!
